While the COVID-19 pandemic has millions of people staying safe at home, it’s also giving the opportunity to folks to do some of the things that you’ve always wanted to do. So, if you’ve found yourself with a ton of time on your hands, here is your chance…

💚  Spring Clean Your Home

A clean home is one of the most rewarding gifts you can give yourself. Sure, you wash the dinner dishes each day and semi-regularly vacuum the floor, but what about the corner behind the sofa? Now’s your chance to get into the nitty gritty! Pull everything out of the corners, take everything off the shelves, move the furniture, and let’s get busy. You know that junk drawer? The one that doesn’t always open because there’s so much crap stuffed into it? Get in there!


💚  Go through that closet!

If you have something that you have not worn in a year, get it the heck out of your house (unless it’s your wedding dress – you can keep that). You may complain about not having anything to wear, but what you’re saying is that you don’t have anything that you WANT to wear. Now’s your time to unpack it all. Whether you’re doing the Marie Kondo method or have your own, go through it all! And who knows, maybe you’ll cut a shirt into a crop top or some jeans into shorts or bleach dye an old black t-shirt. Make a fun project out of upcycling some of your clothes. All the rest – charity!

💚  Go through your pantry

Have cans of Campbell’s soup from 2005? Throw that stuff the hell out. If you’ve been looking at it, but never want to eat it, donate it (please make sure it hasn’t expired). Those seaweed snacks you thought you were going to like – let it go. While going through this stuff, who knows – maybe you’ll find some hidden food to eat during quarantine! It could save you some time having to go back out to that dreaded grocery store.

💚  Clean Out Your Filing Cabinets

Seven years is the recommended time frame for keeping old financial records and other papers. However, you might have every bank statement and tax return that you have ever received (like my dad does). Honestly, you may not be able to get some requested records from an organization or business because they do not keep them past a certain date. If businesses can get away with it, you can too. Have a bonfire, and burn those old papers!

💚  Clean Your Car Inside and Out

For many of us, our cars can file charges against us for abuse and neglect. You intend to take it to the car wash, but you don’t because there is rain in the forecast. Forget the rain. How about the French fries that fell between the seats and the dust on the console? You need to clean the windows and polish the tire rims. A few hours of detailing your car can have it looking like new and make you feel like hot shit!

💚  Read A Good Book

Perhaps, the books on your reading list keep piling up. You say, “I will read that book when I have some free time.” You may have started reading a few of them, but never finished. If the last time you read a book was three years ago when you were on a plane to visit your grandmother in Florida, it’s time to chisel out a few hours a week to expand your mind. Curl up with a warm blanket, a cup of tea, and a good book!

Are there things on it that you can do from the comfort of your own home? Have you always wanted to write your own book? Learn a musical instrument? Now’s your chance!

💚  Plant A Garden

One of the best types of therapy is gardening. There is nothing like being close to nature and filling your hands with dirt. You may feel as if everyone has a green thumb but you, but that’s not true. Anyone can garden! Think of how rewarding it would be to eat fruits and vegetables that you GREW. Sustainable living is great for the environment and you! Trust us – you’ve never tasted a tomato like the one you’re about to grow.

💚  Try a New Way of Eating

Have you always wondered what it would be like to be vegan? How about just cutting dairy out? Ever wonder what a sugar detox would feel like? Or how eating an ayurvedic diet would be? Now is the perfect opportunity to try it out! You have a lot of time to do some research, make a plan, and try out some new recipes for a new diet!

All this time at home doesn’t have to be bad. It doesn’t have to be consumed by binging Netflix and melting into your couch. Seize this opportunity and get some of your shit together. You’ll be productive, you’ll feel great, and you’ll be ready to conquer the world when quarantine is over!
